Existence - Dynamic Movements
Series I: In Memory of 9-11 Absolute Art Gallery
Absolute Art Gallery is very pleased to announce a solo exhibition featuring a contemporary experimental artist, Acton Chin (Aka: Qin Yuan-Yue), showing recent works including figurative structure deformation of mixed media paintings and drawings. The memorial night reception will be held from 69 p.m. on Saturday, September 11th, 2004, and is open to the public.
Acton Chin is an artist who ceaselessly creates and courageously reforms himself. Acton Chin has been teaching and working on oil paintings, figurative drawings, and conceptual experiment in varied media and styles for over forty years. In the early 1970s in Beijing, China, while teaching at Chinese Central Minority University, he was inspired by film negatives and rubbings from Chinese inscriptions, and started using white outlines on special screen paper, so-called Korean hard paper, to create feminine figurative drawings and to express mysterious and harmonious atmospheres, his dream world. The style has influenced thousands of Chinese artists and expended to the US in the 1980s, when the style was popular with collectors. In his twenty years residence in LA (South Pasadena), Chin has been absorbing, and experimenting with life, western culture and diversities; and he has been continuously searching and exploring his spiritual process and visual inspiration. In the mid 1990s, he started a transformation process and created a post-modernism mixed media series named: Revival in which he combined classical symbols, tons of lively figures from Michelangelos Last Judgment together with modern scientific signs, and contemporary figurative drawings. This series caught a good deal of attention, including reviews such as from Mao to Levis: Cultural Shock in The Gazette in Montreal, and Marriage of Rock n Roll and Religion in the LA Times San Gabriel Valley Section. His paintings and drawings are aggressively powerful and feature strongly modeled charcoal renderings of Michelangelesque figures, compelling the viewers involvement by their force. The paintings are broken into fields that suggest emotional conflicts. Stated David Scott, former director of the National Museum of Art in Washington. He raises a question of our religions and suggests that we reexamine our belief system. In the late 90s, Acton Chin started figurative structure deformation and deconstruction research and exploration in a new series titled Dynamic Movements. After September 11, 2001, his deep sense of shock could never be calmed; he spent hours and hours on his canvas and papers. In this current exhibiting series I: Forever Existence, in memory of 9-11, he claims that: "life is power, life is wisdom, life is origin, and life is immortal." Acton Chin has been exhibiting his paintings, prints, drawings, and installations internationally in museums and galleries in China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), Denmark, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Sweden, Switzerland, West Africa, Canada, and the United States. His works are in the public and private collections of numerous countries. Absolute Art Gallery cordially invites all families, friends and artists to join our memorial night reception.
