San Marino, CA -- Absolute Art Gallery, a new contemporary art gallery, is very pleased to announce a solo-exhibition, “In Mystery” featuring a contemporary landscape and light drawing artist Robert D. Aitchison. The exhibition opens April 1st and runs through 24th, 2004.

Robert D. Aitchison ‘s artworks in this exhibition span several years. Most are based on mystery landscape images and include a series of landscape paintings and preparatory drawings. A series of self-portraits sited in abstract landscapes and a series of light drawings.

“I find images from landscape to be powerfully transformative.” When Aitchison makes or views landscape images he feels transported to a place full of experience and memory. “I am changed by this kind of experience and return to it over and over in my work. I hope this work will provide the viewer with a similar experience.”

The light drawings done in blue are based on a 19th century photographic process. As in the original 19th century process, each print/light drawing is handmade as a unique object. “I used symbols and images from nature as fragments grouped to create narratives.”

The opening reception will be held from 6-9 PM on Saturday, April 3rd, 2004 and will be open to the public. Absolute Art Gallery is located at 2326 Huntington Drive, between San Marino Avenue and Del Mar Avenue, 100 feet east of San Marino City Hall, south of Huntington Library in San Marino.
